German Grammer 1(Articles)
All the words in the german language are either male, female or neuter. It is completely different from the English language suppose 'Table' is masculine in German. Why? There is no hard and fast rule for it you just need to memorize.
der - the (masculine)(Definite article)
die - the (feminine)(Definite article)
das - the (neuter)(Definite article)
ein - a (masculine and neuter)(Indefinite article)
eine - a (feminine)(Indefinite article)
Definite article:
der Tisch (the table)
die Tasse (the cup)
das Kind (the child)
Indefinite Article:
ein Tisch (a table)
eine Tasse (a cup)
ein Kind (a child)
so ein is used for both masculine and neuter.
